The Tennessee Select was founded
by Brandi Stallings, a former Jefferson County High School and UAB athlete, and her brother Brent Stallings. The Tennessee
Select was formed in 2007, and was formerly affiliated with the Tennessee Stars from 2004-2006.
The club was formed
to assist girls in developing their skills and knowledge of the game of basketball. It is our goal to teach, mentor, and encourage
each athlete to achieve their goals both personally and athletically. We strive to put them on a platform competing against
some of the best players in the country and playing in front of many college coaches throughout the spring and summer.
While as the Tennessee Stars, our teams enjoyed success on the AAU circuit. In 2004, as a 12u team we played local
tournaments. In 2005, as a 13u team, we participated in the AAU DI Nationals in Dayton, Ohio and finished tied for 5th in
the Classic Tournament. In 2006, as a 14u team, we finished in the top-8 of the DII National tournament in Orlando, FL while
only having seven players on the trip.
In 2007, in our first year as the Tennessee Select we fielded 2 teams (15u
& 16u). The 15u team won their pool and finished in the top-50 of the AAU DI Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee. The 16u
team, participated in the AAU DI Nationals in Orlando, Florida.
The Select joined under the Tennessee Flight banner
in 2008, which has been ranked for three straight years as a top 3 travel program in the nation. We are affiliated and carry
the Flight name, but operate out of Knoxville, Tennessee. We fielded two teams in '08 (15 & 16) where we played primarily
the exposure circuit. Our athletes played in front of hundreds of college coaches at our exposure tournaments and played against
some of the best competition in the country. Our success in those tournaments can be seen on our website (www.tnflightselect.com)
under the Tournament History link. Out of our 10 players on the 16u team, 6 signed scholarships in the early signing period.
Due to this affiliation, we are quickly being recognized as one of the premier programs in the southeast.
In 2009, we fielded three teams, who all played the exposure circuit. We traveled to tournaments in Murfreesboro,
TN, Hampton, VA, Atlanta, GA, Lexington, KY, Washington D.C, and Myrtle Beach, SC. Our success in 2009 on the exposure
circuit landed out club ranked in the top-20 travel clubs in the Southeast according to the The National Basketball Insider.
The Flight Select also partnered with the Tennessee Attack, which former Lady Vol, Courtney McDaniel founded, and at
the close of the 2009 season the Tennessee Attack has now merged with the Flight Select. This merger will benefit all
age groups from 8u-16u and allow us to provide our services to all ages of kids.
